Kathy for Mason County

Before moving to the Olympia area 28 years ago, I grew up on the banks of the Klickitat River near the Columbia River Gorge and spent 10 years in the Tri-Cities area.

I’ve lived in our beautiful state my whole life, but it wasn’t until I moved to the city of Shelton almost 8 years ago, that I found a place to call home, and a place where I can do the things that I love the most: visiting family, camping, fishing, exploring our parks, playing a round of golf, enjoying a local craft brew with some friends, or playing with my Boxer, Etta.

I’m proud to call Mason County my home, and it will be my home for the rest of my life.

During my 18 years as an accountant for Mason County, I have participated, listened and learned a lot. I understand our county. I understand its finances, the services it delivers, and the challenges it faces.

As your county commissioner, I will thoroughly examine the issues, contemplate the anticipated short and long-term costs of county projects, and I will work with the two other commissioners to ensure that the budget for this county is always in the best interest of the public’s health and safety.

With my experience, dedication and commitment to transparency, together we can keep Mason County a safe, flourishing place for future generations.

I have decades of accounting experience in both the public and non profit sectors. For the past 18 years I have been an accountant for Mason County. I understand its finances, the services it delivers and the challenges it faces. With that comprehensive understanding, I will do everything in my power as your commissioner to ensure that the budget process is fair and, first and foremost, in the best interest of public safety and health.

Article 1 of the Washington State Constitution says, "All political power is inherent in the people, and governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed." The primary means to hold our government officials accountable is through transparency. As a long time public servant, I am fully aware of this great responsibility and will always be open and transparent to the people I serve.

The job of a county commissioner requires someone who is fully dedicated to public service. I did not take running for this office lightly - only after careful consideration and long talks with family and friends did I decide to follow my passion. This community will be the place I will call home for the rest of my life, so I have a vested interest in working together to keep Mason County a safe, healthy and flourishing place for future generations.
